This week marked the glorious return of cat-assisted yoga! I’ve been doing my stretches outside in the sun, and the old man (my cat) has been right there on the mat with me. It’s honestly been such a peaceful and fulfilling way to spend an afternoon.

Last Saturday took a less peaceful turn—I went for a bike ride around the park, and a bug (I think it was a fly) dive-bombed right into my mouth and down my throat. It was horrible. I’m mildly convinced I have parasites now, but fingers crossed that’s just my imagination.

Easter Sunday (the 20th) was a total win. I picked up egg coloring kits and a dozen white eggs, then lured my daughter over for some festive fun. We had a great time, and it really lifted my spirits.

On Tuesday, I had a bit of a health breakthrough: after digging into my symptoms, I realized I might have a thiamine (Vitamin B1) deficiency, potentially “wet beriberi.” I started supplementing with 100mg of B1 and added more magnesium into the mix. I’ve also learned that caffeine blocks thiamine uptake—so now I’m trying (and failing) to give up coffee. sips coffee anyway

Midweek, arthritis flared up badly. My left big toe joint was swollen and painful—gouty, even. I suspect red meat might be the culprit. I skipped it Thursday, and by Friday morning, the swelling was gone. Hoping that’s not a long-term issue because, well…red meat is 50% of my diet.

Speaking of food, here’s a quick snapshot of what I ate this week:

  • Deviled eggs (leftover from Easter)
  • Rib eye steak
  • A whole chicken
  • Chicken wings
  • Bacon
  • Sausage
  • Scrambled eggs
…and for a treat on Friday, I had Costco soft-serve ice cream with the family. That was my big “cheat”—otherwise, I stayed pretty disciplined avoiding fiber-heavy foods.

Supplements I added this week:

  • Magnesium (both glycinate and citrate forms)
  • Vitamin C (occasionally)
  • Vitamin K2
  • Thiamine (B1) – 100mg daily

I’m noticing some strange but amazing changes—colors seem brighter, smells are sharper, and mentally I feel like I’ve shifted into a completely different gear. I didn’t even realize how low I’d been feeling until now. It’s kind of surreal.

I also managed to mow the half-acre again (that grass just won’t stop), though I still need to tackle the weed eating. Oh—and the mystery water leak out front? Looks like it’s finally fixed. The crew dug a huge hole in my yard—big enough for someone to stand in—but fingers crossed, it’s sorted now. Bamboo is growing nicely and the flower seeds I planted have their first leaves.

Here’s to small victories, shifting energy, and figuring out what makes this weird machine of a body work best.
