My lunches have been mixed, but my favorite is a bit of fried chicken (in duck fat or its own fat) with a little rice (usually leftover), local cheese and if I’m lucky some Kraut. Sometimes I’ll have an egg on top of the rice, or egg on rice for breakfast (with runny yolk).

Still very fatigued. But joint pain is better, brain is clearer, and most things very much improved.

My kitty cat Poutou is feeling unwell again. Sneezing, coughing and last night he vomited. He’s sore quite often. I’m afraid he might have cancer because sometimes I can feel knots under his fur. I wish I could find a local vet to see him, he hates vets and traveling and gets car sick really easily.

Really F’n Bad Advice From a “Doctor” Online

The only thing wrong with this recommendation is everything.

Ten years ago I set out to discover the cure for Diabetes because I kept hearing the buzz about ‘reversal’ and ‘cures’ and my Dad had such severe Type 2 Diabetes. Over the course of that time I went down a hundred rabbit holes (pursued a broad variety of options and treatments that ultimately went nowhere).

Without writing the novel I now have in my head about what I learned and questions I still have regarding nutrition like — why did Nathan Pritikin (circa 70’s) believe it was low-fat and not low-calorie? Or Dr. Kempner (circa the 40’s) (for that matter, and why did Keys put so much faith in data collected after a war when a lot of those countries were on rations….Keys was meticulous and a really good scientist…okay I digress. Common lore has Ancel Keys (early 60’s) as a monster setting out to promote big sugar, but dig down a quarter inch and that falls completely apart. The scientist saw they could reverse deadly diseases with diet — that was a massive breakthrough. By the time Nathan Pritikin came along it had been a thing for 30 years — but also there was fasting. Fasting was huge back then, they claimed it could, “straighten the spine!” (Upton Sinclair who also sung the praises of the Hazard sisters who gained fame as serial killers starving their fasting guests to death and stealing their wealth….)

Anyway, I’ve been curious as to why they rejected a low-carbohydrate diet for Diabetes. Atkins published his book in ’72 a couple of years before Pritikin’s. Pritikin was a proponent of NO FAT, none — but also his weight loss diet was, if anything, dangerously low-calorie. Pritikin died early due to cancer unrelated to food or diet. I wish he could have lived longer, he had a really bright intellect.

Anyway — if my Dad was still alive I would tell him: a.) check your feet everyday. If you do have a callous or something, don’t frickin’ mess with it. If you have an ulcer go to the doctor immediately. b.) don’t eat carbohydrate. Period. ANY FUCKING CARBOHYDRATE. Ween off of it and eat meat, eggs, milk and keep track of your blood sugars. c.) Keep your calories in check and track them. Do not over eat.

But uh’ there is zero chance he would listen to me, but after ten years that is what I would tell him. I would say — dude, you’re going to get gangrene TWICE. You’re going to be a f’n mess. You can’t eat pie. You can’t drink juice and it doesn’t matter what they told you in the hospital or gave you to eat — you can’t have carbohydrate. Period.

Eh’ that’s just an opinion, I’ll probably keep researching. I find nutrition an interesting mystery and wonder why in all these decades what to eat is still a question.
